We are proud to present the Brighton and Hove French Circle. We are affiliated to and supported by the Alliance Française in London, which is one of the most renowned French language centres in London.

Covid 19

Due to government restrictions normal meetings have had to be cancelled in November but we still hope to hold the one on Dec 9th - Christopher Doidge. We will let you know as soon as the lockdown is lifted.

The Brighthelm Centre is Covid- secure.  In addition, the French Circle is taking the following precautions at all meetings:

  • All visitors and members must supply a telephone number (Track and trace)
  • Facemasks will be obligatory
  • Movement round the Auditorium will be in  one direction only.
  • The Auditorium has a capacity of 200 – there are normally about 30 people present at most meetings, so plenty of room for social distancing
  • The French Circle will provide all members and visitors with hand gel as well as anti-bacterial wipes for chairs / pens etc
  • If you wish to drink a glass of wine, it will be served for you and any donation should be put in the box provided
  • No paper will be distributed

If you are considering coming as a visitor (£5.00) or as a member (£30.00 single, £50.00 joint) please have the correct money ready or a cheque made out for the appropriate sum.

23 September:  there will be a mini-quiz on the theme of French cheeses and a chat by a few members on their favourite French cheeses.

We organise talks and social events attracting people from different backgrounds and affinities with a desire to learn about the French language and culture and we hope our 2020 - 2021 list of cultural events and meetings will keep you entertained.

Our objectives are:

1- To associate in a common bond of friendship and fellowship French-speaking people in sympathy with France and the French language.

2- To create interest in the literature, history and institutions of France by lectures, social intercourse, reading, etc., giving members the opportunity to speak French and to hear French spoken.
